Salmon Guide Trips
Fishhawk Home Page
ABOVE: 14 year old Grae from Nevada caught and landed this 44 lb fall Chinook salmon on her birthday! It was so big she needed the help of a Nevada State Wrestler to hold it up for the photo. Chinook average 20 pounds, with many exceeding 40 pounds. Fights can last 15-30 minutes with these fresh-from-the-ocean fish making many runs. The smaller coastal rivers have runs of Chinook (King) from October through December with fish topping 50 lbs.   The reward of landing one of these big fish is seen in photos, and there is nothing that beats a fresh salmon dinner!
Salmon trips on the lower Rogue start in July when large numbers of Chinook start to enter the bay and with the advent of the rainy season the salmon begin to migrate upriver. Guided trips are run from river jet sleds which comfortably seat four. Equipped with salmon trolling rods and lots of anchovies, warm summer days are spent slowly moving the bait along the bottom where big fish are holding. When the fish are on the bite, several boats at once will have fish on creating excitement all around.
